What are the fees associated with SuperSim?

There are no monthly or rental fees for SuperSim equipped with only UK phone number. However, there is a fee of US$2 per month for the optional Canadian alias phone number. If you choose to substitute the Canadian number with an alias phone number of your local country, the monthly fee may be different and a setup fee may apply.

A monthly fee of US$2 is charged for the Canadian alias phone number on the first day of every month whether the SuperSim is used in the month or not. The monthly fee is charged at the beginning of the month. The first month is not charged the monthly fee as it is likely a partial month. The alias phone number will be deactivated automatically when the SuperSim has insufficient balance to cover the monthly fee, which is a balance less than or equal to -0.01. Deactivation of the alias phone number is not reversible. A new alias phone number needs to be purchased in order to resume using the alias service. Setup fee may apply. Alias phone numbers of other countries may have different monthly fee and setup fee.

How do I use SuperSim and SuperSim service?

SuperSim service is very easy to use. It takes 3 steps:

  • Insert your SuperSim into your unlocked mobile handset.
  • Switch on your handset.
  • Your handset will automatically connect to an available GSM network in the country.

For more information, see the SuperSim user guide.

Can SuperSim work with any GSM handset?

No. Superim works with most GSM phones as long as the phone is SIM unlocked. When you purchased the phone from your mobile telecom operator, the operator may have "locked" your phone to prevent its use with other mobile operators' SIM cards. Consult the vendor of the mobile phone to get it unlocked.

What are the steps involved in making a call with SuperSim?

The SuperSim service can be configured to call back to the SuperSim or to any other phone or SIM:

Using the SuperSim to receive the call back call

The SuperSim will carry the call while roaming. The default call back number of the SuperSim is its phone number.

1. Key in the number you wish to call. Use the format +DestinationNumber# where DestinationNumber is <country code><city code><local number>. For example, +19059445555#.
2. After dialing the number, there will be a slight pause, as the SuperSim service rings you back to connect your call. Answer the call normally. Ignore any error messages the phone may display during this process.
3. Wait a moment for the call to be connected to the destination.

Note: If you had previously set the call back number for a trigger call, you need to set the SuperSim's phone number or alias phone number as the new call back number before making a call.

Using another phone or another SIM to receive the call back call

The SuperSim can be used to trigger (initiate) calls with call back to another phone or SIM instead of to itself. This is useful when you travel to a location where you have access to a phone or SIM that can receive calls at low or zero cost, and this phone or SIM may be used to receive the call back call. You can register the call back number by dialing a command on the SuperSim. The cost of the call back leg would be the cost for the SuperSim service to call that phone or SIM plus the cost to receive a call on that phone or SIM. This may be less than the cost to receive the call back call on the SuperSim. You can use the Rate Calculator on www.supersim.mobi to check which way is more economical.

1. Key in the number you wish to call. Use the format +CallBackNumber*DestinationNumber# where CallBackNumber is <country code><city code><local number> of the phone or SIM where you want to be called back, and DestinationNumber is <country code><city code><local number> of the person you wish to call. For example, +14165521234*19059445555#.
2. When the SuperSim service calls your phone or SIM, answer the call normally. Ignore any error messages the phone may display during this process.
3. Wait a moment for the call to be connected to the destination.

If you want to receive the call back call at a hotel room, use +HotelPhoneNumber*RoomNumber*DestinationNumber#, and the SuperSim system will play "Please connect this call to" "<RoomNumber>" when it calls the hotel.

The call back number setting remains in effect until you set a new call back number. So the next time you want to make a call with call back to the current call back number, you can just dial in the format +DestinationNumber#, and the system will look up the last call back number automatically.

What is Cellular Phone roaming?

Roaming is defined as the ability for a cellular customer to automatically make and receive voice calls, send and receive data, or access other services when traveling outside the geographical coverage area of the home network, by means of using a network in the area visited. Roaming is technically supported by mobility management, authentication and billing procedures. Establishing roaming between network operators is based on - and the commercial terms are contained in - Roaming Agreements. If the network visited is outside the home country, this is known as International Roaming. GSM Roaming, which involves roaming between GSM networks, offers the convenience of a single number, a single bill and a single phone with worldwide access to over 200 countries. The convenience of GSM Roaming has been a key driver behind the global success of the GSM Platform.
